野球の第3回ワールド・ベースボール・クラシック（WBC）2次ラウンド1組が8日に始まり、大会3連 覇を狙う日本代表「侍ジャパン」と台湾の試合が同日に東京ドームで行われ、中継番組（テレビ朝日系）の平均視聴率は30．3％（午後7時8分〜11時48 分、ビデオリサーチ調べ、関東地区）、瞬間最高は午後11時43、44分の2時点でそれぞれ43．0％と高視聴率を記録した。七回コールド勝ちを収めた 10日のオランダ戦も平均視聴率で34．4％と今年最高を記録しており、連日の熱戦に視聴者の注目が集まっている。
　8日の台湾戦は、満員の4万3527人の観衆を集めて行われ、日本は台湾に2度のリードを許しながら 4−3で逆転勝利。九回2死から劇的な二盗を決めた鳥谷敬選手が、井端弘和選手の適時打で生還。土壇場で同点に追いついた日本は、延長十回、中田翔選手の 犠飛で勝ち越し、4時間37分にわたる“死闘”に決着をつけた。
　日本は、12日に東京ドームで、キューバとオランダの勝者と対戦し、2次ラウンドの最終順位が決定する。決勝ラウンドは、17日から米サンフランシスコのAT＆Tパークで開かれ、4チームが準決勝以降のトーナメントを争う。（毎日新聞デジタル）
