我把葉子撫平,順一順,依照插作水仙的規矩將葉子拆開,長短適宜的兩片兩兩相對,用水仙的莖膜「白根」輕輕套上,高低錯落地插上。含苞的和已經綻放的水仙花各個站好自己的位置,微微笑了。冷涼的空氣飄散一股寒香,忽然變得有情味起來。

日本俳聖松尾芭蕉歌詠水仙的俳句不少,這是其中有名的一首。白色的花和白色的紙門,如何映照呢?休息的空檔,環顧老師位於古都巷弄的日式屋宅,恍然明白 了。原來,和室的構築,插花作品大都擺在「床の間」(tokonoma,又稱壁龕)這內凹的小空間,背後飾以掛軸,中間是接待客人的區塊,前方就是薄而透 光的隔間紙障門。當賓客蒞臨,紙門一關一開,窗牖的光線斜斜地照射,於是就有了掩映曖昧的花影;他們聊著聊著,天色轉暗之前,雪花也輕輕飄下來了……
